Still waters run deep, as they say. What at first sight may not seem particularly spectacular, contains many a surprise. The same is true for Val Martello – always worth a second glance. You will look in vain for ski lifts, mass tourism and stress, but instead the 25-kilometre-long side valley will delight you with peaceful, unspoilt nature landscapes and the Stelvio National Park, one of the largest nature reserves in Europe. And that is why it’s the perfect starting point for ski tours and snowshoe hikes in the valley, high up in the mountains and in the heart of the mesmerizing glacier world of Mount Ortles. Another bonus point: many of the winter activities start right on your doorstep!
Hölderle natural sled run This natural sled run is 2 km long and leads along the Plima steam – perfect for families!
Sledging Groggalm On our Groggalm we also have a sled run on the sunny side of the valley and two magic carpets for the kids.
If you are looking for amazing descents, a tour to the Nonnenspitze/Cima di Rabbi is just the destination for you. The wide ski slopes on the Nonnenspitze leave plenty of room for your own tracks. Another plus: powder snow guaranteed for a long period!
Not every 3,000-metre peak requires climbing and glacier ascents - the Orgelspitze for example doesn’t need either. The tour still is steep and demanding. However, the 360° panoramic view that awaits you will be worth the effort! Afterwards treat yourself to a little culinary reward at the Gasthaus Stallwieshof ...
The Cima Marmotta is a famous ski-tour destination. The trail to the Zufallhütte leads you to the Martellhütte, and the steep glacier steps of the Hohenferner/Cima Marmotta. Once you have reached the summit, you will be able to enjoy an incredibly beautiful panoramic view of the South-Tyrolean mountain world.
The tour to the 3,352 m high summit of the Ortler Group is no walk in the park - but: All efforts and memories of steep paths are blown away when the view of the mountains Cevedale, Eisseespitze, Pederspitze and many more opens up before you …
The Zufallhütte/Rifugio Nino Corsi is considered an absolute classic. Along the way there are impressive natural spectacles to discover, like the famous Plima Gorge …
This tour leads you over the idyllic snowfields of the Waldberg and is perfect to start the day right after breakfast. Optional, but absolutely recommended: a stop for lunch at the Gasthof Stallwies.
On this tour, you can tick 3 alpine huts off the list: Enzianalm, Peder-Stieralm and Lyfialm (refreshment stop). Along small brooks you will wander through untouched nature.
The Waldheim beginner’s tour is ideal to get to know the area better. You could call it sightseeing in snowshoes!
Recharge your batteries, enjoy the silence and dream – discover the favourite place of senior host Hermann! The trail n. 36 invites you to take a leisurely walk along the Rio Plima and the chapel St. Maria in der Schmelz.
Recharge your batteries, switch off and enjoy the silence – where else but here in Val Martello? The best place to do so for me is the Schmelzer Forest, which is located directly behind the pilgrimage chapel St. Maria in der Schmelz.
